The Non-Negotiable waybill replaces the Bill of Lading as the traditional shipping document, incorporating the Bill of Lading “Terms and Conditions” by means of a simple “incorporating clause” on the face of the document.
The waybill is essentially a document providing for the automatic delivery of cargo to a NOMINATED Consignee. Traditionally the production of a DOCUMENT OF TITLE (the Bill of Lading) has been necessary to prove ownership before cargo is released. Providing the person applying to take delivery of the goods can identify himself as the Consignee NOMINATED in the Waybill, a document of title does not need to be produced to obtain delivery of the cargo.
